WEST CREEK ACADEMY

Guaranteed Enrollment for West Creek/West Hills Homeowners

Valencia’s newest elementary school, West Creek Academy, will create a bold, new educational learning concept when it opens to students in Fall 2010. It will become the first public school academy in the Santa Clarita Valley, with the goal of becoming a “premier music academy.”

Saugus Unified School District is working to create the curriculum and develop the staff for the new academy which will be headed by principal Cory Pak. In addition to the standard SUSD curriculum, each student will learn music alongside reading, writing and arithmetic.

Starting in kindergarten, students will begin to learn to read music and either learn to play the violin or the cello.  By fourth grade, students will have the option to continue learning that instrument or choose to focus on vocal or the performing arts.  Additionally, students in the upper grades will be able to choose brass or percussion instruments in place of string and participate in the school’s orchestra.

It’s anticipated that approximately 450 children will attend West Creek Academy. Homeowners in the Valencia village of West Creek/West Hills will have guaranteed enrollment for their children in the Academy.
