Canines and Coffee and Donuts. Oh My!

We’ve received lots of requests for more information about the Canines and Coffee event coming up this Saturday, July 31, so here are all the details you’ll need to know.

The event will begin at 9:30 am next to the New Home Showplace located in West Creek, adjacent to Terry Miller Park [directions] and will be open to both dogs and their owners. If you don’t have a dog of your own, don’t worry, there will still be plenty of fun to be had, or you can adopt your new best friend at the event. Visitors will be treated to free coffee from Newhall Coffee Roasting Company while local favorite S&S will provide guests with free donuts throughout the event. Meanwhile, dog lovers will get a chance to meet and mingle with each other on what is expected to be a beautiful Saturday morning.

At 10 am, and then again at 11 am, we will be hosting dog agility shows featuring amazing Frisbee-catching dogs! These professional dog athletes promise to put on a great performance for the whole family! The agility shows will be followed by “Pat and Chat” time where you can meet the star canines up close!

Need a new Pooch? Don’t miss the pet adoptions going on until 2 pm, presented by New Leash on Life Animal Rescue. New Leash on Life is a local animal rescue center responsible for spaying and neutering thousands of pets as well as rescuing over 3,000 dogs. The center also provides free educational seminars at local shelters and makes it a priority for shelters to find homes for hard-to-place animals requiring medical or special care. The Awesometown Foursquare Challenge

We’re having a Summer Celebration here in Awesometown and we want to celebrate you, too! To show our appreciation for your Awesometown enthusiasm, we’re giving you a chance to win some awesome prizes*, including a $50 gift card from Panera Bread, a family four-pack of tickets to see an LA Galaxy game or a family four-pack of tickets to see the Chivas Soccer Club play at The Home Depot Center, just for checking into our events on foursquare.

To participate, simply check in at Summer Celebration events**!

Once you have reached the minimum number of check-ins, simply bring hard-copy proof of dates and locations of “check-in” to the New Home Showplace and you’ll be entered to win. (Printed history from your Foursquare account will be accepted.)

Tim Conway, Jr. Joins the Summer Celebration This Friday!

Fridays in Valencia are always something to look forward to (especially during the summer), but this Friday Awesometown is serving up something extra special. Straight from his nightly talk show on KFI AM radio, Tim Conway, Jr. will be making his first live appearance at Awesometown’s Summer Celebration! This will be his first in a series of six appearances at this summer’s Lexus of Valencia Jazz & Blues Concert Series.

Known for his thoughtful and logical opinions on today’s most entertaining topics, Conway’s down-to-earth take on life and his willingness to laugh at current events make this Los Angeles-born host a favorite among listeners and make his appearance this Friday such a highly anticipated event.

Be sure to visit the KFI AM radio booth and say “hi” to Tim Conway Jr., right next to the Awesometown booth where you can enter to win cool prizes.

Don’t forget about the rest of Awesometown’s Summer Celebration! Take a Walk on the Awesome Side

This Saturday, it’s time to put on your walkin’ shoes and join us on a Paseo Discovery Walk through Awesometown! The outing will begin at 9:30 am next to the New Home Showplace at West Creek, [south of Copper Hill Drive at 28723 North Calle De La Paz Drive, Valencia, CA] adjacent to Terry Miller Park.

There’s a lot to be excited about. Not only will we be serving healthy drinks and refreshments, but the walk will also be lead by fitness trainer Jeff Bomberger. Jeff has been a certified personal fitness trainer since 2005, has his own in-home workout DVD, titled Body Basics, and has been featured on NBC’s Wake up World segment.

So come on out and enjoy some good company and great exercise!

Get Jazzed!

Living in Valencia certainly has its perks. For one, you get to tell people that you live in Awesometown (hooray!), plus there are a ton of fun activities for Valencia residents. Take ‘The Lexus of Valencia Jazz & Blues Concert Series’ for example. Already in it’s fourth week, the celebration has featured the musical styling of Finis Tasby, Tom Nolan, and the Lori Andrews JazHarp Quartet. Check out this video from a few weeks ago:

Lucky for us, this Friday is no different, if good music and good neighbors sounds like your idea of a night on the town, mark your calendars for Teresa James & the Rhythm Tramps. Teresa James is a crowd favorite whose fans include the likes of Bonnie Raitt. If you’d like to hear her music before the show, visit her on Myspace.

Shows take place from 7:00 pm until 9:30 pm on Town Center Drive at McBean Parkway in Valencia. All shows are free and open to the public.
